Kraków
Wawel Castle
A Street Photography Journey
I wanted to spend a few days outside Austria, and Kraków immediately felt like the right choice. Having never visited Poland before, the idea of exploring one of Europe’s most historic cities through photography was incredibly appealing.
The journey itself turned out to be surprisingly relaxed. On the train I listened to Ruminations by Conor Oberst — a record that somehow matched the rhythm of travel and the feeling of leaving familiar places behind.
Through a wonderful person I met earlier this year at a sports photography workshop — @pyrkson_photo_ — I had the chance to explore the city in a very special way. We spent an entire day walking through Kraków together. Coming from Poland himself, his insights added another dimension to the experience. Language, culture and history suddenly felt much closer, helping me understand the city beyond what you see at first glance.
Kraków has an incredible amount to offer: a vibrant historic old town, the Wawel Castle overlooking the city, the Wisła River with its long promenades, and surprisingly many parks and green spaces that create quiet moments between the urban energy.
My goal for this trip was not to create the most beautiful photographs of Kraków in just three days. Instead, I wanted to challenge myself as a street photographer — working in unfamiliar surroundings, observing more carefully, and learning to trust my instincts.
In many ways, this city became less about capturing perfect images and more about rediscovering the joy of walking, observing, and following the light.
